Running an event on your Minecraft server
PvP tournament, build contest, treasure hunt, season launch: how to prepare, announce and run an event that brings players in and back.
Updated on
An event gives a specific reason to log in on a specific date. It is one of the best ways to fill a server on a given night, bring old players back and attract new ones.
1. Choose the right format
- PvP tournament: duels or teams, with a bracket. Perfect for PvP and Factions servers.
- Build contest: a theme, a time limit, a vote by players or a jury. Ideal in Creative or Survival.
- Treasure hunt, parkour race, drop party: easy to organize and open to everyone.
- Season launch or new map: the biggest event of the year, to prepare well in advance.
2. Set the date and time
Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and late Sunday are the times when most players are available. During school holidays, weekday afternoons work too. Avoid clashing with a big Minecraft update or a competing event in your community.
3. Prepare
- Write short, clear rules (sign-up, allowed equipment, behavior).
- Prepare the area in advance and protect it (WorldGuard) to avoid bad surprises.
- Test everything with the team the day before: commands, teleports, rewards.
- Plan visible rewards (temporary rank, cosmetic item, title) rather than items that unbalance the game.
4. Announce
- On Discord, with a reminder the day before and an hour before.
- In game, in the login message and an automatic announcement.
- On your page: server owners can publish their events from My servers → Events. They appear on your page, in the events calendar, and players who have your server as a favorite are notified the day before.
5. On the day and after
- Open a few minutes early to welcome players and answer questions.
- Take screenshots and video clips: they will be useful for Discord and social media.
- Announce the winners quickly and thank everyone.
- Ride the momentum: ask participants to vote for the server and leave a review. A successful event is often the best voting day of the month.
