Joining the staff of a Minecraft server: moderator, builder, developer
The staff roles of a Minecraft server, what servers look for, how to write a good application and where to find servers that are recruiting.

Joining a server's team is a great way to get involved in a community (and an experience that counts). Here is how to get accepted.
Staff roles
- Helper / guide: welcomes newcomers and answers questions. Often the way into moderation.
- Moderator: enforces the rules in game and on Discord, handles reports, sanctions cheating.
- Builder: builds the spawn, minigame maps and event sets.
- Developer: configures or codes plugins (Java, Skript), handles updates.
- Event host: organizes events and contests and keeps the Discord alive.
- Designer / video editor: logos, banners, videos and social media content.
What servers look for
- Maturity and calm, especially in moderation: behavior matters more than age.
- Regular availability (state your time slots, even if they are limited).
- Good knowledge of the server: play on it before applying and know its rules.
- For technical roles: a portfolio (build screenshots, GitHub projects, edits).
Writing a good application
- Introduce yourself in a few lines (age if asked, username, how long you've played on the server).
- Explain why this server: what you like, what you would like to improve.
- Share your experience, even modest (moderating a Discord, builds, small plugins).
- Answer the scenario if one is given: a player insults another, someone cheats… what do you do?
- Proofread: spelling and politeness make a real difference.
Where to find servers that are recruiting?
The Staff recruitment page gathers the openings of ranked servers, filterable by role: apply online and follow the team's answer. On a server page, the “Recruiting” box also shows the open positions.
After a rejection
It's not a failure: keep playing, keep helping other players and try again later. Teams often pick the players they see getting involved.
