Join a Minecraft server on PC, mobile or console: where to find the server address (IP) and port, how to add it, and what to do when the connection fails.

Updated on

Found a server you like in the ranking? Here is how to join it, depending on your version of the game.

On PC: Minecraft Java Edition

  1. On the server page, click its address (for example play.myserver.com): it is copied.
  2. Launch Minecraft Java, click Multiplayer, then Add Server.
  3. Paste the address in “Server Address”, confirm, then double-click the server.

If the address includes a port (play.myserver.com:25566), paste it in full.

On mobile, Windows 10/11, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch: Bedrock Edition

  1. In Minecraft, open Play → Servers tab.
  2. At the very bottom, choose Add Server.
  3. Enter a name, the server address and the port (19132 by default, shown on the server page).

On console, adding external servers is not always available directly: some servers explain a way to connect on their Discord. Check that the server accepts Bedrock: look for Bedrock or cross-play servers.

The most common errors

  • “Outdated client” or “Outdated server”: your Minecraft version does not match the server's. The page shows the accepted versions; switch versions in the launcher (Installations tab).
  • “Can't connect to server”: check the address, then the status on the server page. The server may be offline or under maintenance.
  • “You are not white-listed”: the server is reserved for allowed players. Ask for access on its Discord.
  • Missing mods: modded servers require installing the same modpack. The link is usually on their website or Discord.

Another error message? Every fix is in can't connect to a Minecraft server, and the address is explained in a server's IP address and port.
